The World Health Organization has made available the 4th ed. of its Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality. This document builds on over fifty years of guidance and should serve as an authoritative basis for setting regulations and safety standards for drinking water safety. Please note that surface water is discussed in terms of control measures, hazard identification and verification.
According to the World Health Organization “It is the product of significant revisions to clarify and elaborate on ways of implementing its recommendations of contextual hazard identification and risk management, through the establishment of health-based targets, catchment-to-consumer water safety plans and independent surveillance.” (WHO, 2015).
